Jim Johnson

Teaches IMC 615 - Creative Strategy & Execution

Jim Johnson is an adjunct instructor for the West Virginia University Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) program, as well as an assistant professor at Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) in Columbus, Ohio. At CCAD, he created and currently teaches their advanced branding concepts course, connecting brand equity with contemporary brand marketing.

Throughout the past 25 years, Johnson has held the positions of group creative director, global creative director and executive creative director at major agencies in New York and Europe. These agencies include Saatchi & Saatchi, Grey Worldwide and Wells, Rich, Greene. His area of expertise is in consumer packaged goods. Johnson has created campaigns for consumer favorites, such as Tide, Gain, Pampers, Olay, Downy, Herbal Essences, Pringles, E.J. Gallo Wines, Clairol and Toys ‘R Us. During his nine years as global creative director, Johnson created, supervised and coordinated advertising that ran in more than 30 countries, and helped develop innovative equity management tools for global use.

His work has garnered multiple creative and brand building awards including the P&G Global Brand Building award, AICP Gold, Gold Effie, Clio and Mobius. His commercials are part of the permanent collection at MOMA and have appeared on the AdAge Top 10 Ads of the Year list.

His students have received multiple One Show Pencils and national ADDY awards. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Louisiana State University.

Johnson’s speaking engagements include the P&G Cannes Seminar, S.I. Newhouse School at Syracuse University and the Columbus M.B.A. Innovation Symposium. He has also consulted for the P&G/Walmart Healthcare Summit, determining their healthcare platform for the next decade, and P&G FutureWorks.
