Teaches IMC 610 - Introduction to IMC
Matthew Cummings is the assistant director of online programs. In this role, he provides oversight and development of online instructors, and leads course development and maintenance of academic quality standards in all Reed College of Media online programs.
Prior to joining the integrated marketing communications (IMC) administrative team, Cummings served as a lead instructor in the IMC graduate program, teaching and managing the introductory IMC 610 course. He has taught in the IMC program since 2006 and received the program’s Alexia Vanides IMC Teaching Award in 2012. While teaching, he also served, full-time, as director of communications for Erie’s Public Schools (EPS) in Erie, Pennsylvania. In that position, he served as media spokesperson and chief communications strategist for the system, and served on the superintendent’s executive leadership team.
Before joining the city school system, Cummings was vice president of Core Creative, a small marketing communications agency in Pennsylvania serving manufacturing, retail, education and nonprofit clients. He has also worked as director of marketing communications for a regional chamber of commerce and enjoyed a five-year career in radio broadcasting as an announcer/producer.
A native of northwest Pennsylvania, Cummings is a graduate of West Virginia University’s IMC program. In addition to his master’s degree, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and studied at the graduate level at Seton Hall University in strategic communication and the University of Nebraska in education administration.
