Teaches IMC 633 - Entrepreneurship in IMC and IMC 637 - Internal Brand Communication
Mike Kohler joined the West Virginia University Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) program with prior adjunct faculty experience at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO), where he taught electronic media management and English composition. Kohler earned his Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in communications from UNO, where he was honored with distinguished service awards from the Department of Communication, and the College of Public Affairs and Community Service.
In the business world, Kohler has been a business owner, business coach and communication consultant. He served as a vice president for two of the nation’s largest broadband companies, where he was responsible for internal communication, public relations, government affairs, media relations, and television programming and production. In addition, Kohler served as a marketing and communications consultant, specializing in content strategy, for a global engineering firm.
Stemming from his experience as both a franchisee and master franchisor, Kohler co-authored “The Educated Franchisee,” a guide for prospective entrepreneurs. Kohler has held leadership roles with numerous nonprofit, government and professional organizations. He currently serves as a planning commissioner in his hometown of Olathe, Kansas, in the metro Kansas City area.
