IMC 636 Capstone Project

Completion Date – Summer 2017

Client – VEN

Residence – Mount Airy, N.C.

Undergraduate Degree – Mass Communications, BA from Emory & Henry College, Emory, Va.

Misc. Facts –  I have worked in tourism marketing, business-to-business marketing and now work as the marketing director of Surry Community College. I started my career as a newspaper journalist. I took six years to complete the master’s degree program at WVU due to my family’s busy schedule and because I just needed lots of breaks. The race to finish my degree was done more like circuit training - in sprints. It’s such a great sense of accomplishment to be finished.

Capstone Experience – I selected my current employer as my capstone, which is a win-win since I can apply the project to my actual job. I recommend students choosing their current employer or in an industry where they want to work. My advice is to work on your project every week and stay on top of deadlines. The capstone can feel overwhelming, but it is actually very manageable if you work on it every week. You should also thoroughly research your client before class starts. This will give you a head start.
