Dr. Adrienne King (dr_adking) has dedicated her career to promoting public higher education and seeking private support to increase accessibility for all students. King joined the senior leadership team at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, as the Vice President for University Advancement in 2015. Her responsibilities include strategic direction for the Division of University Advancement, including the following university areas: Branding, Marketing and Communication; Alumni Relations; Development; and the Town & Gown Partnership Program.

Under her leadership, the Division completed a comprehensive marketing plan in FY16, which has strategically changed the academic profile of incoming students. Private support for the university has increased by an average of 47 percent since FY15 and grown the University’s Alumni Association nearly tripling the number of dues-paying members and increasing the organization's retention rate to 76 percent. 

King has nearly a decade of experience in higher education branding and marketing, having led the development and implementation of comprehensive marketing plans at four different institutions – University of Charleston, WVU Institute of Technology, Idaho State University and Murray State University. Her previous professional roles have included Director of Marketing & Communications at Idaho State University, Director of Relations & Communications at WVU Tech, and Director of Marketing at the University of Charleston.

Her marketing teams have won more than 20 different awards from organizations such as PRSA and CASE for their work on recruitment initiatives, crisis communications, social media campaigns and fundraising/crowdfunding projects. King has also volunteered as a blogger and judge for CASE.

A 2006 graduate of WVU’s IMC program, King went on to earn her Doctor of Education in educational leadership in higher education administration also from West Virginia University. Her doctoral dissertation was titled “Integrated marketing communications variables that influence return on investment in higher education: Chief Marketing Officers’ perceptions.” She holds bachelor's degrees in public relations and graphic design is from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. She is also a graduate of the 2018 Leadership America program, a national executive leadership program designed for senior-level women who represent the broadest spectrum of professional, cultural, geographic and ethnic diversity.
