RSVP for the Graduation Ceremony by April 12
9 a.m. at the WVU Coliseum
In May, individual WVU colleges and schools host their own commencement ceremonies. The WVU Reed College of Media’s May Commencement ceremony is on Friday, May 10.
The ceremony includes a processional of graduation candidates and speakers. Graduates are individually recognized and cross the stage as their names are called. Master's degree candidates should drape their hood over their right arm and present it to Assistant Dean Chad Mezera, who will hood each candidate as they cross the stage. Then candidates will have an opportunity to shake hands and pause for photos with the College of Media dean and the WVU presiding officer.
The College of Media invites December 2018 graduates to join their fellow May 2019 graduates in this celebration. As a courtesy, the College also invites prospective August 2019 graduates to participate.
Graduates must be at the WVU Basketball Practice Facility (adjacent to the Coliseum) at 8 a.m. Students enter at the top of the basketball practice facility and proceed downstairs to receive a line-up card and get in order to process with a faculty marshal into the Coliseum.
RegaliaParticipating candidates are required to wear caps and gowns. These can be purchased online from Herff Jones or in person from the WVU Bookstore. Please purchase all caps, gowns, tassels, and hoods prior to the day of your ceremony as no regalia will be sold at the venue. All Reed College of Media graduates, including IMC and DMC grads, should wear the tassel designated for Journalism - the color is crimson. We recommend ordering Custom Regalia and selecting Master to get your Master gown, hood, and cap. See WVU's Commencement Attire page for more information about attire requirements.
RSVP to participate in the Ceremony by April 12, 2019
Tickets are not required for this event, and there are no restrictions on the number of guests a graduate may bring. However, students who plan to participate must RSVP for the ceremony. If you do not RSVP for the ceremony by the deadline, contact Erica Lindsay immediately at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Diplomas are mailed after all grades are finalized and certified by the WVU Office of the Registrar—approximately three weeks after the ceremony. Graduates will, however, receive a commemorative diploma cover, featuring the seal of the University, as they accept their congratulations.
Please note: Invitation to or participation in the ceremony is not confirmation that the student is certified to graduate. Graduation certification is completed after final semester grades are released.
Parking: Parking will be available in the WVU Coliseum parking lot. Satellite lots with shuttle service will be made available to guests should there be a need for overflow parking.
Outstanding Fines/Fees: Candidates should check with Admissions and Records at (304) 293-2124 to be certain that they do not owe any fines or fees. Outstanding dues may result in a delay in diploma mailing.
Photography: A professional photographer will take photos of graduates as they cross the stage. An email will be sent to the address provided on the photo/name card completed at the ceremony. Graduates will be able to order these photos immediately following the ceremony.
Printed Program: Students who applied for May graduation by the deadline will be listed in the ceremony program. Students who applied after that date may not be included due to printing requirements. Though they are invited to participate in the ceremony, August 2019 graduates will not be included in the May 2019 Commencement program. Their names will be listed in the December 2019 Commencement program.
Accommodations for Guests and Graduates with Disabilities: Commencement volunteers will be on hand to assist as needed.
More Information: Further details about the graduation ceremony will be sent to graduates via email and eNews throughout the spring semester. Students are also encouraged to follow the College on Facebook and Twitter.
