The WVU Reed College of Media has hired Matthew Cummings, M.S. IMC, as Assistant Director for Online Programs. In this role, Cummings will provide oversight and development of online instructors and lead course development and maintenance of academic quality standards in all Reed College of Media online programs.
Prior to joining the IMC administrative team, Cummings served as a lead instructor in the graduate IMC program, teaching and managing the introductory IMC 610 course. Matthew has taught in the IMC program since 2006 and received the IMC program’s Alexia Vanides IMC Teaching Award in 2012. While teaching, he also served full-time as Director of Communications for Erie’s Public Schools in Erie, Pennsylvania. In that position, he served as spokesperson and chief communications strategist for the system and served on the superintendent’s executive leadership team.
“Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming hundreds of graduate students to the IMC program and I am honored to now join the administrative team,” Cummings said. “Our instructors are our most important resource and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to support them continually improve the student experience and ensure that our courses remain industry-relevant.”
A native of northwest Pennsylvania, Cummings is a graduate of West Virginia University’s IMC program. In addition to his masters, he earned a bachelor of arts in communications from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and also studied at the graduate level at Seton Hall University in strategic communication and the University of Nebraska in education administration.
