Chad Mezera is Assistant Dean of Online Programs in the West Virginia University (WVU) Reed College of Media. In this role, he oversees the college’s award-winning online master’s degree program in integrated marketing communications (IMC), graduate certificate programs and the college’s undergraduate online minors. Since assuming leadership of the IMC program in 2005, Mezera has grown the program from 57 students to nearly 500 active students. Today, the IMC program is the largest master’s degree program offered by WVU. Mezera also assumed leadership of online undergraduate minor programs in advertising, health promotion, public relations and sport communication in the summer of 2011, applying the same best practices developed for the IMC program to support all of the college’s online course offerings.
He has consistently added to the quality and relevant online curriculum at the Reed College of Media by developing new programs, including the digital marketing communications graduate certificate program in 2009, as well as undergraduate minors in strategic social media in 2013, and entertainment media and event planning in 2014. Mezera has served on the WVUeCampus Advisory council since 2006.
The IMC program was named the 2015 “Outstanding Online Program” by the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), the leading professional organization devoted to advancing the quality of online learning worldwide. The OLC annually recognizes the program for its proven record of excellence, as demonstrated by its success in providing expanded access, learning effectiveness and high levels of student and faculty satisfaction, in a cost-effective manner.
Before coming to WVU in 2005, Mezera led the internal corporate communications activities of a major government IT reseller and solutions provider. Mezera also implemented dozens of national and regional marketing campaigns for a non-partisan think tank focused on developing and teaching best practices in government. Mezera promoted the organization’s centers of excellence in law enforcement, contracting, technology and environmental policy.
Mezera earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising and a master’s degree in journalism from WVU and is a member of the national journalism honorary Kappa Tau Alpha.
