The IMC program at WVU Reed College of Media attracts a variety of applicants, from seasoned professionals to those just starting their career in the marketing communications field. While our program is offered entirely online, the total number of available seats for each entry term is limited to keep class sizes small and enable plenty of one-on-one interaction with professors. Admission to the IMC program is competitive and depends on a variety of factors, including undergraduate academic performance, years of relevant experience, references and a personal statement.
Please submit your information to our Review Dropbox to have your credentials evaluated for the application fee waiver.

Application Deadlines

Admission to the IMC program occurs three times per year —in the Early Fall, Early Spring and Summer terms.

Upcoming WVU IMC Admission Term Start Dates:

  • Late Spring 2018 - March 1
  • Summer 2018 - May 14

The IMC program does operate on a rolling admissions basis and qualified applicants may be accepted earlier than the early/priority acceptance notification date. There may be several weeks between the day you submit your application and when you receive an admissions decision from the IMC program. All applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision whether accepted or rejected; however, the timing can vary depending on when the complete application is received. Applicants are encouraged to apply before the program’s priority/early application deadline in order to receive full consideration.

Once accepted to the program, a student may have an obstacle arise that prevents them from starting courses in their intended term. For these rare situations, students may choose to defer to a later term by completing the Deferment Form. Students who choose to defer may do so for one term from their intended start date. If a student wishes to defer their enrollment more than one term, the student must contact the IMC Enrollment Specialist Emily Hayes ( ) for further instruction and approval.

Application Submission Deadlines

Applying before the deadline gives applicants the optimal amount of time to explore and receive financial aid, order books and plan their course of study. Complete applications must be received by the following deadlines to receive full consideration for admission:

Term Early/Priority Admission Applications Accepted Until
Summer (May)* April 15 May 1
Early Fall (August) May 15 August 1
Early Spring (January)   October 1
December 1

Applications will be processed after the deadline until an incoming class is full. Once all available seats have been filled, qualified applicants will be deferred to the next incoming term.

Acceptance Notification

If application materials are received by the corresponding application deadline, students selected for admission to the IMC program will be notified of acceptance within five (5) business days of completed application and transcript receipt.
